Issued 16 October 2006

The finalists for the 2006 Angus Ambassador Awards can now be revealed as eighteen stars of the county step into the spotlight.

The Angus Ambassador Awards have been created by the Angus Ahead campaign to recognize those who are acting as outstanding ambassadors for our wonderful county.

For the past seven years this exceptional breadth of achievement has been celebrated as a mark of the significant contribution Angus citizens are making to the arts, the business, the communities, and the tourism of the county.

Nominations were received from organisations and individuals, from young sports stars and performers to commercial businesses. Authors and musicians were nominated alongside festivals, exporters and tourist attractions.

After great deliberation and some difficulty, the Angus Ahead Champions - made up of business, tourism, youth and community leaders - and representatives from the Award Sponsors, were able to narrow it down to the 18 finalists in the six categories, and one Ambassador of the Year.

The Ambassador of the Year, sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland, will be announced at the Gala Dinner on Friday 24 November at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel, where the celebrity MC will be Andrea Brymer, one of the main anchors of North Tonight, STV's nightly news programme covering the north of Scotland.

Born and brought up in Brechin, Andrea was educated at the local high school before studying for a B.A. Hons degree in Media Communications at Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh. Her television career started at Scottish Television in 1994 where she worked as a news assistant before becoming a features reporter on Lunchtime Today. She then moved on to present Scotland Today. In 2003 she moved back to the northeast of Scotland and became a newsreader and reporter for North Tonight.
