Morven House

Morven House is a Georgian mansion house located on the south side of Carnoustie in 3 acres of private walled grounds.4 Star B&B Rating

There is ample off road parking and the property and grounds are illuminated when dark for your safety and added security.

The property has been extensively modernised including en-suite facilities, double glazing and central heating.  Where possible the original Georgian features have been retained.

The property was built in 1808 for Captain John Borrie, a wealthy Jute Baron who traded with the West Indies from the nearby port of Dundee.  In the 1800's the local economy was dependant on three major sources of income, Jute, Jam and Journalism.  Only journalism remains as a major industry.

D. C. Thomson are perhaps not the most well known newspaper publishers but many children will know of their leading titles,
'The Beano' and 'The Dandy'.

Besides the golf there are many historical attractions in the area.  Glamis Castle is just 10 miles away and is most famous for being the childhood home of both the Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother.

Eight miles away in Arbroath the opportunity exists to taste the local delicacy, the Arbroath Smokie.  The Smokie is a whole haddock which is slowly cooked over hardwood chips.  Unlike a kipper (smoked herring) the Smokie is not so heavily smoked and retains a moist freshness.  Smokies are available to order for breakfast.  They are excellent on their own or together with poached egg and toast.

Morven House has 6 letting bed rooms each with private bath room or en-suite shower room.  All rooms are decorated to a very high standard, equipped with colour television, radio, tea and coffee facilities, and additional electric heating facilities for your comfort.  All bathrooms have individual hot air heating.
