No 8 Shore is a delightfully unexpected place from where you can do an amazing number of things. Walk in the country along miles of beaches and cliffs, swim in the sea (I did as a child!), do almost any of your favourite outdoor sports, perhaps golf on ordinary or world-class courses, birdwatching, climbing (3000ft mountains 30 miles away), safe cycling, sea or river fishing of every sort, sea sports, sailing (berth your own yacht out front!)
There's archaeology, Scottish history, ancient civilisations (over 2500 years), town trails, conservation areas, sail round the still-working Bell Rock lighthouse, built in 1811 by men just with hand picks and chisels.
There is an active theatre, a modern swimming pool, a sports/leisure club, a pro-active museum, a new visitor centre, a miniature railway.
And the weather? Arbroath has a unique physical geography which gives it the second highest number of daily sunshine hours in UK.
Or, you could just wander round a town of friendly, but discreet people who know you're on holiday and might just want a quiet, relaxing holiday with economically-priced cafes and restaurants, or grander affairs in grander places as you choose.
Perhaps you could spend the afternoon in the comfortable sitting-room above a fascinating working harbour: fishing boats, yachts: little ones or ocean-going; or a magnificent annual Sea-Fest.
