Christmas Tree ThumbnailThe Angus Xmas Show at the Meffan in Forfar which opens on 29 November, is a regular fixture on the gallery calendar and a firm favourite with visitors.

The feast of artworks on display are all for sale and many visitors to the festive exhibition find it an ideal place to select Christmas gifts for others or choose a special present for themselves. If shopping is not on the agenda, the gallery provides the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Christmas crowds.

The exhibition is open to any artist resident in Scotland, and both professional and amateur artists alike submit their work to be scrutinised by the selection panel. The number of participants rises year upon year and, as space in The Meffan is limited, only the very best of the work makes it onto the gallery walls for display. The judging panel then have the difficult task of selecting the prize winners - not an easy job when there are hundreds of works of art to choose from.

Many people will agree with the judges' decision, whilst others may find their favourite piece differs from the final choice. To rectify this, visitors will be able to have their say and cast a vote for their personal number one, although they may find they are spoilt for choice.

The artist whose work receives the most votes will win a prize and will be asked to nominate their favourite charity to receive a donation. They will also have the satisfaction of knowing that their work has been voted The Meffan's Christmas Cracker. To add an extra incentive, all voting papers will be put into a draw and one lucky voter will walk away with a prize of their own.

Votes can be cast up until Saturday 13 December, when ballot papers will be counted and the winners announced. The show continues until January 3, so there is plenty of time to revisit the Meffan and see if you picked the winner.

The exhibition is open to the public from Saturday 29 November until January 3, 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, admission is free.
