Located to the south west of the town centre, the harbour was the centre of Arbroath's economy for many years. Fishing was the economic mainstay for the population before the European dictated fishing quotas were introduced. Today the harbour is alive with pleasure craft, with a lively marina and sea-angling trips running from the pierhead. The town is famed for its 'Arbroath Smokies', haddock that is smoked over wood-chip fires.
