Fowlis Collegiate Church

Located a half-mile (1 km) east of Fowlis Easter lies one of Scotland's finest mediaeval churches, the Fowlis Collegiate Church. Built in 1453 by Sir Andrew Gray of Fowlis it replaced an earlier building which was dedicated to St Marnock in 1242. The original church on this site may have been erected as early as the mid-12th century by the Mortimer family. The present structure served as a Collegiate Church between 1514-38. Its modest exterior hides the treasures inside, which include mediaeval paintings (c.1541), parts of a rood screen, a bell dating from 1508, and the original sacrament house and font.
