The South Esk Catchment Partnership is seeking views on the 'Issues Document' - a 30-page document which describes the key environmental, social and economic issues facing the river South Esk and its surroundings.
This document represents the next stage of the development of a Catchment Management Plan, which is due for completion by December 2009.The Plan will include a list of measures that will aim to guide the future sustainable management of the catchment of the River South Esk.
The development of the Catchment Management Plan began in spring 2008 and was launched at the Angus Show. In June, a questionnaire was distributed to over 250 people with an interest in the river, including land owners and managers, residents, schools, walking groups, angling clubs and other relevant organisations. A further 1000 questionnaires and leaflets were distributed to village halls, libraries, Access Offices, hotels and fishing huts.
Karen Phillip, the independent Project Officer overseeing development of the Plan revealed that there had been a good response to the questionnaires. "The questionnaires returned clearly show that the people who live and work in the catchment want a say in how their waters are managed," said Karen.
The questionnaire results can be found at http://www.angusahead.com/southesk but issues raised by the returned questionnaires include:
"It's vitally important that everyone with an interest in the River South Esk catchment has the opportunity to contribute to development of the Plan," continued Karen. "This will ensure that the South Esk remains a valuable, useful and beautiful asset to the county of Angus for future generations.
"We have organised two open meetings in November to give everyone an opportunity to comment on the issues they feel are important in the catchment."
TheSouth Esk Issues Document meetings will be held from 7pm - 9pm on Wednesday 19th November in Memus Village Hall, by Kirriemuir and Thursday 20th November in the Northern Hotel, Brechin. "Light refreshments will be provided and we hope to see a good turn out," concluded Karen.
Copies of the Issues Document are available from the Project Officer, Karen Phillip, on 01307 47 3198 or email PhillipK@angus.gov.uk or visit
