Angus Council will not compromise its high standards of design, build and density of developments even in the face of the current credit issues, neighbourhood services committee members heard at their meeting yesterday, 20 November.
A report before members set out a series of proposals showing that the council is keen to assist the building industry, increase the provision of affordable housing in the county and eager to support local communities in providing affordable housing for rent.
Convener of neighbourhood services, Jim Millar said: "We intend to develop a range of measures to encourage affordable housing development in Angus but at the same time, we are determined not to reduce quality standards for short term gain. We are taking a long view and want to ensure that housing is developed sympathetically in our towns and villages."
In a linked initiative, councillors agreed that discussions should be revived to set up a Tayside-wide affordable housing procurement partnership. The group will comprise neighbouring councils, local housing associations and developers and would be known as Tayside Affordable Housing Partnership (TAHP).
