Following the successful return of The Grand Scottish Prom in 2011, Glamis Castle is delighted to announce the formal partnership with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO), and to confirm the date for 2012. Newly styled The Prom at Glamis, it will feature for the second year running Scotland's leading orchestra and will take place in the historical setting on Saturday 11th August 2012 , reverting to its traditional weekend. Gates open 4pm concert starts 8pm.
After 18 successful years under the stewardship of the late John Reid, and following two interim years, responsibility for the planning and production of the prom has gradually devolved to the Castle Administrator, David Broadfoot.
David Broadfoot, Glamis Castle Administrator: "Previously, the Glamis team had little or no say in the running or marketing of the event but with partial control in 2011 and now full control in 2012 it has allowed us to connect with the audience and react to feedback received.Almost overwhelmingly, we received positive feedback on the new direction the prom took in 2011 and we are highly delighted with the RSNO partnership. The Trustees of the Estate, Lord Strathmore and all involved in the event production have decided to rebrand it The Prom at Glamis.
"Whilst this reflects greater scope to select a wider range of music we are eager to preserve the Prom's traditional Scottish roots. Indeed, we are thrilled to announce that the RSNO will be supported by not just a piper or two but by an entire pipe band! We're very much looking forward to announcing the full programme and guest artists in the New Year".
As 2012 is Scotland's Year of Creativity it is appropriate that its premier home and national orchestra join together for a long-term relationship which will lead to additional concerts taking place within the castle during the year.
Michael Elliott, RSNO Chief Executive: "We are delighted to be returning to the glorious surroundings of Glamis Castle following a sensational concert last year. The RSNO recognises the importance and future potential of this event and we look forward to being a part of the success."

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is one of Europe's leading symphony orchestras. Formed in 1891 as the Scottish Orchestra, the company became the Scottish National Orchestra in 1950, and was awarded Royal Patronage in 1991. Throughout its proud history, the Orchestra has played an important part in Scotland's musical life, including performing at the opening ceremony of the Scottish Parliament building in 2004. Many renowned conductors have contributed to its success, including Walter Susskind, Sir Alexander Gibson, Bryden Thomson, Conductor Laureate Neeme Järvi, Conductor Emeritus Walter Weller and Conductor Emeritus Alexander Lazarev.
Stéphane Denève, who became Music Director in September 2005, concludes his tenure at the end of the 2011-12 Season. The partnership continues to enjoy great acclaim, at home and abroad and is considered one of the most successful periods in the organisation's recent history. In January 2011 it was announced that Stéphane would be succeeded as Music Director by the celebrated British-Canadian musician and conductor Peter Oundjian, who will officially take up his position for the start of the 2012-13 Season. In May 2010 Dane Christian Kluxen joined the RSNO as Assistant Conductor. For choral performances the Orchestra is joined by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus (Chorus Director Timothy Dean) one of the most distinguished large symphonic choruses in Britain, and the acclaimed RSNO Junior Chorus (Chorus Director Christopher Bell).
The RSNO performs across Scotland, including seasons in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Perth and Inverness. The Orchestra appears regularly at the Edinburgh International Festival and recent appearances in England have included Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, Leeds Town Hall, The Sage Gateshead and at the BBC Proms in London. In the last few years, the RSNO has performed in Orkney, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Serbia, Spain and Croatia.
The RSNO has a worldwide reputation for the quality of its recordings and has been nominated for eight GRAMMY awards in the last seven years. Over 200 releases are available, including the complete symphonies of Sibelius (Gibson), Prokofiev (Järvi), Nielsen and Martinů (Thomson). In 2008 the Orchestra renewed its acclaimed partnership with Conductor Laureate Neeme Järvi (with whom the RSNO has made over 67 recordings) with a recording of Wagner's The Ring, An Orchestral Adventure (arranged by Henk de Vlieger). The RSNO and conductor José Serebrier completed their Glazunov symphonic cycle in 2009, having already recorded five of the Russian composer's symphonies. In 2007 the RSNO made its first recording with Music Director Stéphane Denève - the first instalment of a complete cycle of Roussel's orchestral works - receiving the Diapason d'Or de l'année for Symphonic Music. Three more discs in the series have been released in 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively, to widespread critical acclaim with the fifth and final disc of the series due for release in 2011.
The RSNO is committed to introducing young people to live orchestra music. The RSNO's education and community engagement programmes continue to develop musical talent and appreciation in people of all ages throughout Scotland. Once a year, the Orchestra embeds itself in a local community for Out and About: a week long series of concerts, workshops and community projects.
Naked Classics is the Orchestra's celebrated series which uses multimedia projections, lighting, a presenter and excerpts by the Orchestra to reveal the stories behind some of the great classical masterpieces.
