Tartan Day 2010 - Join in the Celebrations!

Issued: 26 January 2010

How will you be celebrating Tartan Day 2010? The Tartan Day Angus team are looking for families, friends and small groups who are holding tartan-themed events during the week of Tartan Day celebrations, which runs from Saturday 3rd to Saturday 10th April.

"The special events held by Angus Council, organisations and businesses during the annual Tartan Day celebrations always receive well-deserved and very positive publicity," said Ruth Leslie Melville, Provost of Angus. "However, we would love to shine the spotlight on the individual people of Angus and how they celebrate Tartan Day."

In response to the Provost's plea, the Tartan Day Angus team are looking for unusual Tartan Day events taking place between April 3 and April 10 which they can support. Perhaps you're organising a charity dog walk with dogs and owners dressed in tartan? Or a sponsored walk from the site of castle in Forfar where King Malcolm Canmore held his Parliament to Arbroath Abbey, scene of the Signing of the Declaration of Arbroath on April 6, 1320?Or maybe you're planning to paint your front door tartan – or your lawn?

"We'd love to hear about all the different ways local people will be contributing to the week of Tartan Day celebrations," said a spokesperson for the Tartan Day Team, who added that there will be a prize of a family pass to Pictavia for two adults and three children (including a personal tour of the popular visitor centre) for the best Tartan Day celebration by an individual or small group. "Let us know what you're doing to mark Tartan Day – and the wackier the better!"

Details of Tartan Day celebrations can be emailed to the Tartan Day Angus Team at tartanday@angusahead.com. For more information about Tartan Day Angus 2010, visit scotlandstartanday.com.
