(b.1870 - d.1954) Artist. Born in Brechin, Waterson trained at Edinburgh College of Art. He was known for his painting, etching and engraving of landscapes and portraits, using watercolours and mezzotints. His work was well-received and Waterson exhibited at the Walker Art Galleries in Liverpool, in Dresden, Paris and at the Royal Scottish Academy. Waterson maintained a great interest in nature, producing a number of works illustrating local fauna and flora including a set of insect studies in watercolour. He also wrote 'Nature Notes' for the Scotsman newspaper and was a keen photographer. He became a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers (1910), was made a Burgess of Brechin in 1932 and granted the freedom of that town just a few weeks before he died. A collection of his paintings were gifted to the University of Dundee by his widow.
