Noble. Born at Castle Huntly (Perth and Kinross). He married Elizabeth, daughter
of the 2nd Earl of Chesterfield in 1691 and succeeded his father to the Earldom
of Strathmore and Kinghorne in 1695. Lyon fathered no less than four future
Earls of Strathmore.
