Jacobite noble. Born at Glamis Castle, the son of John Lyon, 2nd Earl of
Strathmore (1663 - 1712), whom he succeeded in 1712. Lyon was killed at the
Battle of Sheriffmuir only three years later (1715), while still a teenager and
having never married.
