Lady Janet Douglas Lyon
Famous People

(b. - d.1537) Falsely accused witch. Janet was the widow of John Lyon, the 6th Lord Glamis (c.1491 - 1528) and then married Archibald Campbell of Skipnish. However, she was also grand-daughter of Archibald Douglas, the 5th Earl of Angus (c.1449 - 1513), a relationship which caused her terrible demise at the hands of King James V (1512-42). In his purge of the Douglases, Janet was accused of being a witch, arrested with her new husband and imprisoned in a dark dungeon in Edinburgh Castle. He escaped, but was killed in the process, while she was burned on Castlehill in Edinburgh.
