Boats at Auchmithie Harbour

Perched on an exposed cliff 50 m (150 feet) above its tiny harbour, the small red sandstone fishing village of Auchmithie lies in St Vigean's Parish on the North Sea coast of Angus.

It is the home of the 'Arbroath Smokie' which was supplied
by local fishermen to Arbroath 3 miles (5 km) to the south.

Once popular with smugglers who made use of local caves in the red standstone cliffs, Auchmithie was the Musselcrag that featured in Sir Walter Scott's 'The Antiquary'.
