A village in the heart of Strathmore, Angus, Glamis lies 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Forfar. Nearby is Glamis Castle, the home of the earls of Strathmore who rebuilt the village in the 18th century. Several cottages have thatched roofs and a row of six cottages gifted to the National Trust for Scotland in 1974 has been restored with 19th-century interiors as the Angus Folk Museum. In the churchyard are some fine 18th century tradesmen's tombstones and in the garden of the village manse stands a Pictish cross-slab, known as the King Malcolm stone.
