Finavon Doocot

Lying alongside the A90, at Milton of Finavon, some 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Forfar in Angus is the Finavon Doocot. This was believed to have been built for the Earl of Crawford in the 16th Century and, with 2400 nesting boxes, is Scotland's largest doocot.

Doocots are amongst the oldest surviving agricultural buildings.  The nesting boxes were used to house free flying pigeons for food.  The Finavon Doocot was passed into the care of the National Trust for Scotland by the Angus Historic Buildings Society in 1993 and provides a fascinating insight into rural husbandry.
