Forfar Library holds a collection of books and ephemera highlighting all aspects of Forfar past and present. Many other areas of Angus are also represented. There is a microfilm viewer/printer, microfiche reader and a photocopier for public use.

Old Parish Registers (OPR’s) are available on microfilm for every parish in Angus. A detailed list of holdings is available.

Census

The Census for 1841 - 1891 for every Parish in Angus is available on microfilm. It is not indexed.

The International Genealogical Index (IGI) for Scotland is available in all full time libraries.

Forfar Library holds a large collection of maps including a complete 6 inch Angus set for 1865 and nearly complete sets for 1902, 1927. The 25 inch set for 1902 and 1920 is nearly complete. The 1976 1: 10,000 maps are held for the Forfar and Kirriemuir
