A fragment of a cross slab was discovered in 1884 and is now built into the church wall just above the vestry door.
The cross was thought to be St Medan’s, the saint connected with Lintrathen Church and the nearby parish kirks of Airlie and Kingoldrum.
At Kingoldrum, three Pictish stones and a Celtic bell were discovered, and these are now in the Museum of Scotland. At Airlie, there is a mediaeval stone effigy of St Medan.
