Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre
Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre

Almost cut off from the sea by Montrose itself, the Basin attracts large numbers of wildfowl and waders which come to feed on the shellfish, snails and worms living in the estuarine mud. Look for the eider ducks which feed on mussels in the middle of the basin all year round. During the winter months thousands of pink-footed geese roost on the mudflats and there are often dramatic flights in early morning and evening. The largest numbers tend to be present in late October and early November.
