The Montrose Broomfield Course is laid out on a relatively level plane making for easy walking and is ideal for visitors wishing to play 36 holes in one day. A composite ticket is available allowing one round on each of the Montrose courses. Generally, the course does not require long carries from the tee but, to find the small greens, accurate and considered approach shots are a must.
Broomfield’s turf is links-like and enjoyable to play off especially in the summer months when the ground is dry and fast. Whins are a feature of many holes. The 9th has whins up both sides. Another distinguishing feature is the water ditch that comes into play on at least five occasions. At the 3rd the ditch runs along one side of the fairway and it also affects the approach at the 10th and is in evidence at the 11th, 15th and 16th.
The two most playable holes are the 8th, a par four of only 284 yards with a well-bunkered green and the 16th with its tee shot across the ditch. The 16th green slopes away at either side.
