Carnoustie Cycle Routes
There are two cycle routes from Carnoustie Caravan Park which provide 14 and 6 mile circuits respectively of Carnoustie and its surrounding area.
Carnoustie Town Route (6 miles)
The shorter six mile cycle route circuits most of Carnoustie, a seaside town with a strong heritage, world famous for its Championship Golf course. The route takes in the town's seaside Links parade, the picturesque area of Panbride and the sleepy ports of West Haven and East Haven with its fine sandy beach and picnic area.
Abbreviations: TL - turn left, TR - turn right
- Leave caravan site and TL onto Newton Road.
- At end of Newton Road TL and immediate TR onto Panbride Road.
- Continue on this road until you reach a T-junction.
- TR and drop down the hill into East Haven.
- East Haven has a nice beach, picnic area and toilets.
- TR to road signposted for West Haven and Carnoustie, travel into Carnoustie on street marked Arbroath Road.
- At Y-junction TL to Ireland Street and continue to end of street.
- At T-junction TL to Station Road and cross railway level crossing.
- At T-junction TR to Links Parade.
- Travel along Links Parade past Leisure Centre.
- At second subway TR to Links Avenue.
- Immediately TL to Taymouth Street and continue to end.
- TR into brown Street and TL to Kinloch Street.
- TR to Victoria Street and TL onto Barry Road.
- Travel 100 yards and TR to Pitskelly Road.
- Travel up Pitskelly Road past cemetery.
- At end of cemetery TR to rough track.
- Follow this track past school where it becomes a tarred road.
- TR at T-junction then immediately TL to Newton Road. Follow this road for 100 yards and turn into Caravan Park.
Carnoustie and Country Parks Route (14 miles)
The longer fourteen mile cycle route has some stiff climbs and is better suited to the experienced cyclist. The route runs from Carnoustie to the beautiful County Parks at Monikie and Crombie, taking in the rural settlements of Monikie village and Muirdrum. This route also passes by Barry Mill, a 19th Century meal mill restored by the National Trust of Scotland and well worth a visit.
- TR at caravan site entrance onto Newton Road then TR at main road, TL passing Carnoustie High School and onto rough track past cemetery.
- TR onto tarmac road at T-junction and follow road to minor crossroad at Barry Mill.
- Follow direction signs at the crossroads to get to the Mill. Getting back to the cycle route, this continues on from the mill crossroads to the A92 at Upper Victoria.
- Travel under the A92 and follow the minor road up to the top of the hill and round to Monikie Primary School. TL and follow the road past the hotel and down to Monikie Hall.
- TR at Monkie Hall and travel towards Monikie village. You will pass Monikie Country Park on your right. This attractive park hosts a wide range of leisure activities and has toilets and a good café, but you must remember that there is a no cycling policy inside the park.
- The route passes the park entrance and towards Monikie village, which has a small shop. To follow the route, do not turn left into the village. Carry straight on past the reservoir to the next crossroads.
- TL at the crossroads onto the B961, signposted Redford. Continue on this road to Crombie Country Park. This park is very scenic and has a visitor centre and toilets, but no café. The route follows the road past the park and on to the staggered crossroads with the B9126 Carnoustie road.
- TR at this crossroads and follow the road down to the old A92 crossroads
