The ancient Cathedral City of Brechin with a population of 7,199 (Census 2001) is a prime business location for new and expanding enterprises.
Situated just off the A90 and midway between Dundee and Aberdeen, Brechin is easy to get to, serving as an employment, commercial and service centre for north Angus.
Brechin has a long and varied industrial history. Whisky, linen, paper and even pistols have been produced in the past while today engineering, manufacturing, tourism and financial services are the mainstays of the local economy. There is even a resurgence of distilling with the re-opening of the Glencadam Distillery in 2003.
As a business location, the town offers a number of attractive and distinctive areas including its characterful town centre, the Cathedral precinct with its round tower and lanes and St Ninians Square.
The development of Brechin Business Park has attracted substantial investment into the town as one of the premier industrial locations in this region. It is home to companies such as Edzell Engineering, Alba Pools, Black's of Brechin, and Rutland Electric Fencing. The park's latest investors are Aberdeen based Axiom Process Ltd creating up to ten new jobs in the assembly and testing of liquid solids separation equipment; and a new call centre developed by Angus Council and leased by Journeycall Ltd of Laurencekirk creating up to 60 new posts.
Brechin Arts Festival, Civic Week and the Caledonian Railway also help to attract tourism and investment to the area. See our 'What's On' pages for details of these events.
