Business Monifieth

Monifieth has a population of 7,900 and accounts for 7% of the population of Angus.

From its origins as a small fishing village, it now has a well known Medal golf course and the economy benefits from golf tourism, having hosted the Scottish Amateur Golf Championship and the qualifying rounds for the Open Championship.

Another main tourist attraction within Monifieth is the beachfront area, which is adjacent to the town centre.

Additionally, The Forbes of Kingennie Country House adds to the area's tourism development, offering a bar and restaurant, a first clas golf course, trout and course fishing and quality holiday accommodation. It is also a superb venue for weddings and functions. This Fishery and Holiday Estate is situated in the beautiful countryside by Monifieth.

A new private retail and leisure complex called 'The Angus Gateway' has opened at Ethiebeaton, serving the town and new housing developments nearby.

Monifieth has benefited from housing development since the 1960s and has largely become a residential area. It is not surprising then that it is home to Ennstone plc, a regional aggregates and building materials business that has a group of companies employing over 1300 people throughout the UK, USA and Poland. Ennstone supplies a diverse and dynamic range of products and services to the construction, building, drainage and rail sectors.

The main east coast railway line passes through Monifieth south to Dundee and north to Aberdeen. The city of Dundee is 10 minutes drive by road and other Angus towns are within close commuting distance.
