Today, Monifieth has a population of 7,900 and accounts for 7% of the population of Angus.
From its origins as a small fishing village, it has a well known golfing centre and the economy benefits from golf tourism having hosted the Scottish Amateur Golf Championship and the qualifying rounds for the Open Championship.
Another main tourist attraction within Monifieth is the beachfront area which is adjacent to the town centre.
