Economic strategy in Angus is driven forward by the Angus Economic Development Partnership, a group of public and private organisations working together. Membership includes:
The Partnership's aim is to encourage the development of a prosperous and sustainable economy which supports rewarding job opportunities in viable businesses and pays due regard to maintaining the quality of environment and culture.
The Angus Economic Development Partnership (AEDP), has developed an Economic Development Strategy. The Strategy outlines a vision for modernising the economy with a four year action plan for the county's public sector agencies and business community working in partnership. There are seven key objectives:
The strategy recognises the need to promote diversification, innovation, partnerships, new technology and improve the skills of the workforce, as only then can Angus develop and increase the number of dynamic and sustainable companies.
Read a summary of the key components and priorities of the Strategy below. Alternatively, you can obtain further details and read the complete Angus Economic Development Strategy on the Angus Community Planning website - www.angus.org.
Angus is home to a number of dynamic and ambitious companies and the Angus Economic Development Strategy seeks to build on the county's strengths in key sectors and expose them more fully to the global marketplace.
Greater business networking, including a new Angus Growth club, joint ventures, best practise research and the creation of import/export alliances are proposed, to raise aspirations and encourage companies to embark on new challenges.
The county's share of the service sector, particularly in banking, finance and insurance, also needs to increase and specific measures are underway to attract office activities, including contact centres, into the Angus business parks.
New business start-ups are important to the overall economy. A more entrepreneurial culture must emerge to stem the outward flow of talent and improve the survival rate of new businesses. Advice, information and access to funding are recognised as critical in business development.
Skills and learning are at the core of any successful business development so it is vital that current and future skills requirements are identified, monitored and reviewed to ensure that Angus' learning infrastructure is responsive and ready for economic change. "Enterprise in Education" will be a key priority and partnerships between schools, parents and local businesses will play a key role in moving this agenda forward.
The county's physical infrastructure too must enhance not constrain business, so land use and transport links are high in the economic development agenda alongside information and communication technology.
