Understanding the Curriculum

Developing skills, knowledge and attributes

Scotland's curriculum aims to ensure that all children and young people (3-18) develop the attributes, knowledge and skills they will need to flourish in learning, work and life in the 21st century.

This may start in the classroom, but can only be achieved by working in partnership – involving local businLadyloan Parents Eveningesses, national and community organisations, colleges, universities, training providers, parents and the wider school community.  Ensuring that each of these groups are informed about the developments in Scottish education and have an awareness of the vital role that they can play in its delivery, and the benefits that can be gained.

'Bringing life to learning and learning to life'

EYorkesngaging with employers is central to these ambitions.  Teachers and employers working together are bringing the curriculum to life for our young people: bringing real life into the classroom, taking lessons beyond the classroom and helping to contextualise learning by making it work-relevant, experiential and engaging.

"Working in partnership affords young people a broad range of opportunities and scope for greater personalisation and choice, with benefits for both the young person and the partner organisations…"
