Services in Angus for Older People

The Angus Council Homecare Service helps older people to live independently at home. The service offers those who have difficulty coping with tasks and activities practical domestic help, such as housework, shopping, collecting pensions, making beds and preparing food. Subject to assessment, personal care may also be provided to help with hygiene and diet.

Within Angus there is a range of organisations which provide services which directly support carers, and which are funded either wholly or substantially by Angus Council and/or by NHS Tayside. These include:

In addition NHS Tayside provides some hospital based respite, and a range of Angus Council Social Work Services may be provided to support carers, including:

  • Home Care;
  • Day Care;
  • Residential Respite Care;
  • Family Based Respite.

The National Health Service offers nursing care in a care home to those assessed to need this level of care. Angus has good local nursing homes and private care agencies. Angus Council also provides sheltered housing in all major towns and villages in Angus.

 

Scotland-wide Free Bus Travel Scheme

Transport Scotland (the Scottish Executive's new Transport Agency) introduced a new Scotland-wide Free Bus Travel Scheme for older and disabled people. This scheme replaces the previously operated Angus Council Travel Concession Schemes.
