Rural areas such as Newtyle & Sidlaw and the Angus Glens have a strong sense of community, borne out of a time when they were to a certain degree cut-off from their surrounding area. Not only are transport links greatly improved, much of rural Angus can now enjoy the benefits of new technology to communicate with the outside world. Community websites, such as The Angus Glens keep rural community issues alive and are a useful guide to the countryside. News in rural communities largely focuses on the county's vast estates and rural community activities.
Community organisations in Rural Angus are very active in working towards the improved health, social, economic and environmental wellbeing of their communities. Inequalities in the services offered to towns and rural communities are being tackled and positive efforts are being made to rejuvenate community centres.
Angus Rural Partnership is an umbrella organisation of the main strategic agencies which have an interest in Rural Angus. It provides a forum for the consideration of rural issues as they affect both the service providers and local communities, providing information about local issues, such as a survey of facilities in rural communities in Angus.
promotes sustainability in a rural context, engaging the community and developing and empowering local community groups.
