With its rugged coastline, sandy beaches, heather-clad glens, fertile valleys and wooded hills, Angus is a varied and special landscape. Biodiversity is associated with all of these natural phenomena, and Angus is internationally important with its parks, coast and countryside.
Angus boasts a number of wildlife parks, and contains the Eastern Cairngorms, part of the Cairngorms National Park. Other parks of national and international importance include Monikie Country Park, Crombie Country Park, Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre and Caenlochan National Nature Reserve, to name just a few. Tayside covers 10% of the land mass of Scotland, provides winter quarters for more than half of the world's population of pink-footed gees, houses a third of Britain's breeding population of Osprey and has the largest reed beds in Britain.
The Tayside Local Biodiversity Partnership is made up of statutory bodies, local authorities, non-government organisations and individuals. These partners share a passion for the diverse and rich natural heritage of Angus and actively encourage action to conserve local biodiversity.
The comprehensive Biodiversity Action Plan covers all aspects of conserving biodiversity from Wet Grassland, through Hedgerows and stone dykes to upland heath.
The broad aim of the Tayside Local Biodiversity Partnership is to conserve and enhance Tayside's biodiversity.
