Planning Permission

Planning Regulations and Procedures

Advice is available from Angus Council on Planning Regulations and Procedures. The Council has much experience in assisting home builders with specific advice on the requirements of the planning system and practical advice on other elements of the building process.

Angus Council's planning officials are happy to provide information about site, location and design restrictions, requirements for drainage, road access and water supplies, and can assist in the planning application process.

Planning applications can now be viewed online through the Public Access for Planning site, which offers interactive features that allow users to search by application and search by property. The site also features a weekly list of planning decisions, notes of special interest and a location map.

Solicitors and estate agents will have key local knowledge that is a considerable asset in finding and purchasing suitable sites on which to build. Some sites will have outline planning consent for housing, some will be serviced with water, electricity and gas and some will have neither planning consent nor services – be sure to seek professional advice.

Planning applications are determined by the Director of the Development Control under delegated powers or by the Council's Development Control Committee which meets every three weeks on a Thursday at 6.30pm at the Town and County Hall, Forfar.

The Dundee Courier & Advertiser has a useful property supplement every Thursday.
