In Angus there are opportunities to rent accommodation from private landlords. Two of the major sources of private sector housing in Angus are surplus farm cottages and estate workers houses. Angus Council does not have an "approved" landlord list and there are currently no quality checking, licensing or registration schemes in place.
Private rental accommodation is widely distributed throughout Angus. While flats and one bedroom accommodation tend to be centrally located in the larger Burghs, cottages and larger dwellings, of up to three bedrooms, are found in villages and rural locations.
Although costs vary, private sector rents in Angus range from £45 per week for a one bedroom flat to £50 per week for a two bedroom cottage and up to £55 per week for a three bedroom cottage.
The best way to find out about private rented accommodation is by contacting local solicitors and estate agents or by contacting the Tayside Solicitors Property Centre. The Solicitors Property Guide is published weekly.
Private rented accommodation is also regularly advertised in local newspapers. The Dundee Courier & Advertiser has a useful property supplement on Thursdays.
Alternative avenues for sourcing private rented accommodation include contacting the local area Housing Office for advice, contacting local farmers and estates and generally "asking around" as some opportunities will be advertised through word of mouth only.
