The ancient Cathedral City of Brechin today has a population of 7,199 (Census 2001) and today the Cathedral serves now as the Parish Church.

Brechin has many special features including a bell tower dating back to the 11th century, a centre for Pictish Arts and History called Pictavia, and steam trains that run from the restored Brechin Station and Wayside Station at Bridge of Dun.
Brechin also has a Town House Museum, information about which is available through The Friends of Brechin Arts Festival runs for a week in September and features music, events, art exhibitions and craft displays.
