Forfar is a lively market town and the administrative centre of Angus Council with a population of 13,206 (Census 2001).

Forfar has a major textiles and manufacturing plant operating in the town. The fertile land surrounding Forfar means that for many years agriculture has had a major impact on local industry and employment. Farmers meet in the town on a weekly basis for the Cattle Mart.

Forfar has an innovative new community resource centre, Whitehills Health and Community Care Centre. This multi-million pound development is a joint venture between NHS Tayside, Angus Council and Lippen Care. Whitehills encompasses all aspects of care, NHS services and a residential facility.

The Meffan Museum and Art GalleryForfar and its surrounding rural community are well served with schools and community facilities. Evening classes are available locally for computing, embroidery, wood craving, creative writing and more.

Forfar has its historic town centre, but is also home to much innovation. The award winning Meffan, built in 1898, is one of Scotland's most imaginative museums, boasting a lively art gallery, hosting a variety of contemporary touring exhibitions.
