Living in and around Newtyle & Sidlaw

On the doorstep of the Highlands, Newtyle & Sidlaw is primarily considered to be a farming community and is a lovely part of Angus.

The Sidlaw area comprises the villages of Newtyle and Eassie, Lundie, Muirhead and Birkhill, Auchterhouse, Fowlis, Liff and Balruddery, Tealing and Strathmartine. This is a rural community in the western nook of Angus with Couper Angus to the west and Glamis to the east. Newtyle, served by the Kinpurnie Estate, is situated 3 miles from Meigle and 5 miles from Couper Angus on the road to Dundee.

The Sidlaw area has a strong community spirit. Supported by local estates and the Angus Rural Partnership, local community groups are consistently working towards improving local services, such as community health, local housing, transport and youth services. Angus Council has launched initiatives such as Community Futures to support rural community action in rural Angus.

There are schools in or near every town in the area and good community healthcare.

With the city of Dundee around 10 miles away, and Coupar Angus closer, the area has access to plenty of good quality shops with a supply of every day items accessible to buy locally.

A library service is available in Newtyle that has part-time opening hours to suit those at work and at home. A bus transport service to Dundee is also offered from each of these areas and places to eat can be found locally.

Places of Interest

Set in an attractive landscape with loch fishing and golf courses, the community is well served by Piperdam Golf and Leisure Resort offering access to a leisure spa and outdoor sporting activities. The resort has stimulated job opportunities for the local community in the tourism and service industries. It also offers modern conferencing facilities, ideal for local businesses.
