Getting about Angus by Public Transport

Angus is committed to providing and encouraging the use of public transport, to ensure good communications and ease of movement around the region, and to promote ecological, and environmentally friendly travel.

Angus Council publishes timetables, and makes timetables available in local offices and public places. Your council also provides an on-line journey planner to help you make the most of public transport in Angus.

Travelling by bus

A comprehensive network of local bus services operates in and around the Angus area. In addition to these local services there are limited stop services to and from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow from Angus. Local bus services are closely monitored to ensure they adequately serve the people and communities of Angus.

Bus services linking Angus' Burghs and rural communities include:

  • Hourly service between Arbroath, Friockheim, Letham and Forfar
  • Shoppers service from Glenesk to Brechin
  • Shoppers service from Froickheim to Montrose via Lunan
  • Services between Angus' main settlements and Dundee
  • A number of bus companies operate in Angus, such as Strathtay Scottish Omnibuses Ltd.
  • Travelling by rail

Rail services operate through Angus on the following route:

Aberdeen - Montrose - Arbroath - Carnoustie - (Monifieth) - Dundee - Perth/ Glasgow/ Edinburgh. These are now operated by First Scot Rail.

Community sector transport schemes operate throughout Angus, helping and informing elderly people in the area Tel: 01674 676879.

Angus Transport Forum works with community groups, statutory bodies and transport providers to investigate alternative transport solutions. The Travel Dispatch Centre at Stracathro Hospital can be contacted on Tel: 01356 665000 to arrange transport within the Glens of Angus.
