Working for Families Angus


If you are a parent who is:

  • Thinking about your future options: volunteering, training or employment.
  • Needing help with Debt Advice.
  • Not sure where to turn or what options are available.

Then Working for Families might be able to help you.


What is Working for Families?

Child paintingWorking for Families can help parents meet the problems they face when considering volunteering, training, looking for and applying for jobs or simply improving their current employment situation.

It is a free and confidential service offered across Angus.

Dedicated Key Workers across the area can help you with:

  • Employment and training advice
  • Signposting to opportunities in training and education
  • Preparing a CV and filling in application forms
  • Accessing the best childcare option to meet your personal circumstances
  • Short term financial support for the extra costs that may be stopping you achieving your work/life ambitions

What kind of things might you receive assistance with?

Assistance is dependant on your personal circumstances however examples of support may include additional support with:

  • A short-term contribution with childcare costs to help you with the additional costs that you may have to budget for.
  • Clothing allowance or travel subsidy when returning to work.
  • Financial advice with in work calculations to ensure that the option you wish to explore won't make you financially worse off.

Who is eligible?

  • Parents on Low Income in receipt of working tax credits or unemployed.
  • Lone Parents (pre New Deal).
  • Parents with other stresses within the household (for example; - disability, mental health issues or substance misuse).
  • Parents who are trying to keep jobs or improve hours/earnings or who are going into Further/Higher education.

Volunteering

Q.

I am interested in voluntary work but don't know if I have the right skills.

A.

All volunteers receive the advice, support and training they need to from their Working for Families key worker.

Employment

Q.

I am due to start work in the middle of a month I won't get paid for 6 weeks. How can I pay for my childcare costs and travel to work?

A.

Working for Families can assist you with the first steps into employment. This may include paying for your childcare, your travel to work and even a clothing allowance.

Q.

I would like to increase my hours at work, but this could mean I would be worse off financially. How can I find out?

A.

We can arrange a full benefit check so you can make an informed choice. Working for Families may also be able to help you with any extra childcare costs until you have adjusted to your new employment situation.

Tax Credits

Q.

What happens to my tax credits if I receive help with my childcare costs from Working for Families?

A.

Working for Families can support the full cost of your childcare for a short period of time. Your key worker will advise you on tax credits regarding your own personal circumstances.
