Climbing in Angus

Climbing WallClimbing is a sport that combines co-ordination, co-operation, and a bit of a head for heights. Rock climbing is a rewarding and popular choice of activity, and what an adrenaline rush!

There are a number of excellent routes in Angus, suitable for climbers of all levels and experience. There are groups and courses on year round for novices, and hardened, extreme climbers will not be disappointed by the fare on offer.

  • Corrie Fee, Glen Clova  - This corrie in Glen Clova supplies some short ice routes. Form well after thaw/freeze, but needs to be pretty cold.
  • photo of corrie feeWinter Corrie, Driesh - this easily accessible corrie from Glen Clova gives some short winter routes in attractive surrounds. Best climbing after a thaw/freeze. Must Dos: The Waterfall (III) Diagonal Gully (III).
  • Balmashanner Quarry - Most climbs well protected, short (15m) and enjoyable, although somewhat intense. Some bouldering on Left hand wall of quarry and good bouldering traverse of right wall at 7b+ (French route grade).
  • Rap Jumping (Rappelling) - A new, exciting activity that has just come to Angus is Rap Jumping - or Rappelling. This activity takes place at Legaston Quarry, (near Arbroath) on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10am to 5pm. To find out more about Rap Jumping, follow this link.

Please remember that rock climbing is a specialist sport, and should always be undertaken with the correct equipment, and with supervision where appropriate.
