Watersports in Angus

photo of sea kayaking at lunan bay, montroseWith wide sandy beaches, many small bays and harbours with easy access, and fifty miles of coastline, Angus is an ideal watersports destination. Surfing, windsurfing, canoeing, water-skiing, sailing and diving, are all on the menu in Angus.

There are many opportunities to get involved in watersports while in Angus, with the Angus Sports Council, and clubs like the Forfar Sailing Club. Angus Council runs superb seasonal watersports facilities and tuition, in the pleasant and easily accessible surroundings of its Country Parks.

photo of sail boats on forfar lochForfar Sailing Club is a friendly, family-orientated club, based on a small inland loch set in the attractive surroundings of Forfar Loch Country Park.

Watersports are available at Monikie Country Park from May to September. Hire of equipment, windsurfing, kayaking and sailing instruction are all available, with rowing boat and mooring hire all an option. An adventure week is also available at Monikie Country Park.

Angus' important relationship with the sea is celebrated each year at Arbroath at SeaFest, when the harbour is alive with maritime activities.

The diverse programme varies from year to year, but regular features include boat-dressing competitions, fishing displays, train displays and cookery demonstrations. Raft racing was a recent exciting addition, taking participants past the spectacular cliffs north of Arbroath.

For those who enjoy combining eating and a bit of retail therapy, there is a wide range of stalls selling everything from fresh seafood to handmade jewellery, crafts and confectionery.
