Winter Hillwalking
The Scottish mountains can be transformed during the winter months.The Angus hills are a great place to spend the short winter days.Guiding and instruction can be arranged, concentrating on the different skills required to move safely through the mountains, including step cutting, use of ice axe, crampon techniques, avalanche awareness and the use of snow holes.
Snow and Ice climbing
Ice climbing is a bit different to rock climbing , using a mixture of crampons and ices axes to ascend a climb.
In Angus and when in condition Glen Clova and Glen Doll provide a fantastic location for snow, mixed and ice climbing routes. It's a demanding and exhilarating sport which using a variety of climbing techniques which can be taught by a number of our local activity providers.
Skiing
What can be better ? The experience of skiing on white powder snow against the background of the dramatic East Highlands. Although not in Angus nearby Glenshee is the UK's largest ski resort. The resort covers 2000 acres and boasts 21 lifts and tows. The resort flanks the highest public road in Scotland which climbs up the Devil's Elbow and through the Cairnwell Pass. The area is great for beginners and experts alike and also has expert instruction and ski hire if required.
