Angus and Dundee Tourism Conference

As part of Angus and Dundee Tourism Partnership's efforts to help local tourist-related businesses survive and prosper in the current economic climate, a one-day tourism conference was held at Carnoustie Golf Hotel on Friday 24 April 2009.

The conference - which was sponsored by Angus Council, Dundee City Council and VisitScotland - attracted some of the most influential people in the Scottish tourism industry.

David Adams, Chair of the Angus and Dundee Tourism Partnership, opened the conference, and the morning session included the following four presentations:

  • WORKING TOGETHER - How can we make this work?                                                                       Riddell Graham, Director of Strategic Partnerships, VisitScotland
  • THE CITY REGION                                                    David Valentine, Head of Economonic Development, Angus Council
  • THE CITY REGION                                                     Stan Ure, Business Development Manager, Dundee City Council

The delegates were then split into groups for two parallel sessions, covering the four topics listed below:

  • Passionate about Food - Willie Cameron
  • Driving Golf Home - Stuart French
  • Ancestral Tourism - Gillian Harrower
  • Going Green, The Benefits - Paul Easto

 Tourism and Hospitality

Lunch was prepared by the Chef at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel, using ingredients provided by local food suppliers. 

 

The afternoon session continued with the following presentations:

  • WORKING TOGETHER - The business perspective  Peter Lederer, Chief Executive, Gleneagles Hotel and Chairman Visit Scotland
  • TOURISM - The Scottish Viewpoint             
    John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth
