About the Bellrock Lighthouse

The Bell Rock Lighthouse is a 19th Century engineering feat which stands 11 miles off the coast of Arbroath.

The website is run by David Taylor FSA Scot.  David's great-great-great-grandfather, Capt. David Taylor (1768-1843), was Master of the Sir Joseph Banks tender during progress of these Works.  Capt. Taylor later commanded the supply vessel, the Smeaton, on completion of the lighthouse and eventually the new Pharos of 1816.  He finally took up the post of Lighthouse Storekeeper in Leith when ill health forced him ashore.

Year of the Light Movie
The Angus Council Media Team has created a short digital film (five minutes long) about the building and history of the Bell Rock Lighthouse.

As well as looking at the vast undertaking of actually building the Bell Rock, the film also considers the human stories, and talks to descendants of the people who worked and lived on the lighthouse.

The movie also offers stunning views of the Bell Rock Lighthouse.
