The Hairst is Angus's annual summer celebration of Scottish traditional music, dance and theatre.
"Hairst" comes from the old Scots dialect for the harvest - a traditional time of feasting and celebration in farming communities throughout Scotland.
Established in 1998, the festival showcases a wide variety of Scottish and Celtic talent and yields a huge crop of arts events across the county between July and August.
While The Hairst has its roots in the traditional arts, with music, dance and song forming the core of the event, there is also a strong contemporary theme to the programme.
Last year saw around 60 events in the three-week festival over all seven burghs of Angus - Forfar, Brechin, Kirriemuir, Montrose, Arbroath, Carnoustie and Monifieth.
The programme varies each year but regular favourites include the Heritage Concerts, Ceilidh dances, the open air Saturday Skirls, and traditional music in the Angus burghs.
The Angus Folk Sessions, held in many pubs throughout Angus, feature some of the finest Scottish folk musicians and singers from Angus and the surrounding area. These free, informal sessions are very popular- and they are "open" so visitors are encouraged to join in with a song or a tune.
