Angus Council Ranger Service Events

Climbers at the treetop rope course at Monikie Country ParkThe Angus countryside with its variety of landscapes, including mountains, lochs, woodlands and seashore, provides opportunities for visitors of all ages to enjoy the outdoors.

The Angus Council Ranger Service Events programme takes place around the main Rangers Centres in Monikie Country ParkCrombie Country Park, Forfar Loch Country Park, Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre, and Glen Doll in the Angus Glens.

Environmental activities are a feature of the programme and range from guided walks and self-led trails to the more active pursuits of walking, orienteering and watersports. Construction of bird boxes and woodland management for nature conservation are also a feature.

Other activities include crafts, slide shows and displays.

Nature and Environmental Clubs

Rabbit - Wildlife in AngusForfar Loch hosts several Environmental Clubs:

  • Little Acorns - For pre-school children and their carers,
  • Junior Rangers - for 5 - 14 year olds,
  • and for the over 50s there is Life Begins.

Participants take part in a variety of activities and tasks. Feeding the Birds, Making nests boxes, Bird Call, Tree Planting, Balsam Bashing, Wildlife Gardening are just some examples. All Clubs are free. Meeting times vary. For current details visit:

The Young Naturalist Club for ages 7 to 14 meets on Saturday mornings throughout the year at Crombie Country Park. Led by Rangers, children can explore a range of countryside themes, usually in the form of practical activities. Activities include making ladybird logs and other insect homes, nestbox checks, jungle patrols and seed gathering.

A club especially designed for the winter months is held at Monikie Country Park. Sub Zero offers the chance to learn new survival skills in a safe and controlled environment. This is a Ranger led activity for children aged 10 - 14 years and meets between November and April. Charges apply please visit our web site or contact the Park for further details.

Holiday Activities for Children

The Angus Council Ranger Service also runs special seasonal nature clubs, out of school holiday clubs and exciting activity days for children of all ages during the school holidays.

The programme can include games, trails, modelling, kite making, raft building, crafts, conservation projects and exploration, animalteering and Tracks, a form of orienteering designed for younger children.

There are special under 18s watersports weeks to learn windsurfing, kayaking or sailing. All Watersports participants must be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres.
