The festival offers entertainment for all the family. Previous programmes have included boat-dressing competitions, fishing displays, train displays and cookery demonstrations. Raft racing was added recently, taking participants past the spectacular cliffs north of Arbroath.
For those who enjoy a bit of retail therapy there is a wide range of stalls selling everything from fresh seafood to handmade jewellery, crafts and confectionery.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the Arbroath Smokie - haddock smoked over hardwood - but past years have also seen trout specialities, suckling pig, venison and ostrich meat, available from the Smokie Trail, comprising 70-odd stalls along the harbour.
Visitors can also sample the delights of locally-caught produce at the Gourmet Galley and enjoy demonstrations by some of Scotland's acclaimed chefs.
Street theatre and music such as Scottish pipe bands and local brass bands play a big part in maintaining the lively carnival atmosphere.
And last but not least, don't worry; the kids aren't left to amuse themselves. There are plenty of activities for little ones ranging from kite flying to teddy bear parachute drops.
