Walk 27: The Rocks of Solitude and Gannochy Gorge

Grade: EasyLinear walks

 

Leader: Craig Borland, Angus Council Ranger & Liz Pawley, Ecologist.

 

Length: 8km/5 miles Linear.

 

Date: Sunday 3 June 2012

 

Start: Gannochy Bridge, 10.45 (bus from Kirriemuir at 10.00).   

 

Grid Ref: 600 709 

 

Finish: Edzell 14.30 then onto Tweedsmill Warehouse for refreshments. (Return bus to Kirriemuir at 15.30).

 

Registration: ALL Walkers must register with the Event Centre at Kirriemuir Town Hall at least 15 minutes prior to bus departure. If you are planning to meet the bus en route or are travelling to the walk's starting point by your own transport, then you can register by phone on 07825 387330. If you do not register, you will not be permitted to join the walk.

 

About the walk:  This is a favourite local walk. A wooded trail follows the River North Esk, across the Highland Boundary Fault to the Rocks of Solitude with their unusual geology.

 

Some slippery sections. Boots recommended. Please bring a packed lunch.
