Walk 3: Airlie Ridge

Length: 17km/11 miles linear.                Ascent: 507m

Start: Scott Monument, 09.45 (bus from Kirriemuir at 09.15).  Grid Ref: 371 605

Finish: Glen Clova, 16.00. Refreshments will be available at the Glen Clova Hotel.  (Return bus to Kirriemuir leaves at 17.00)

 

Registration: ALL Walkers must register with the Event Centre at Kirriemuir Town Hall at least 15 minutes prior to bus departure. If you are planning to meet the bus en route or are travelling to the walk's starting point by your own transport, then you can register by phone on 07825 387330. If you do not register, you will not be permitted to join the walk.

 

About the walk: We follow the path from near the Scott monument (erected in memory of Captain Scott who stayed in the glen before going off to the Antarctic) to the Airlie Monument (erected in memory of the 9th Earl of Airlie) and, while admiring the extensive views in all directions, follow the ridge northwards by The Goal and Cairn Leith to pick up the Minister's Path to Glen Clova and follow the River South Esk to the Glen Clova Hotel for refreshments. The path is generally good but with a few wet areas.

 

Full hillwalking gear required. Please bring a packed lunch.
