Numbered Guide to the Webcam Controls

1. Zoom scroll bar,

2. Horizontal panorama scroll bar,

3. Preset choices of webcam views,

4. Snap - take a JPEG snapshot of the current webcam view (please note that the snapshot image will appear in a new browser window),

5. Vertical tilt scroll bar.

Controlling the Camera
Only one person can control the camera view at any one time. If the camera is available, a green square and the words 'Controls available' will appear below the image. When you take control of the camera, the words 'In control' will appear beside the green square.

If you click the control button and nothing happens, it means that someone else is in control of the camera. A yellow square will appear along with the text, 'Camera in use' or 'Next in line'. A countdown timer located beside the text will show you how many seconds the other user has left, before you can take control of the webcam.

Moving the Camera
There are FIVE ways to control the camera.

  • Using the horizontal panorama scroll bar (number 2).
  • Using the vertical tilt scroll bar (number 5).
  • Using the Zoom scroll bar (number 1).
  • Using the drop-down preset menu (number 3).
  • Clicking on the camera image itself and that clicked-on area will become the centre of the display.

Take a Snapshot
You can take a JPEG snapshot of whatever image is currently displayed on the camera. The snapshot image is opened in a new window, allowing you then to save or print the desired image via the features provided by your web browser.

If You Have Problems Viewing the Webcam
I
f you experience problems in trying to view the webcams (for example, if a red cross icon appears on the page or an orange Java logo), then Java VM may not be installed by default on your computer, and you may not see the cameras. If this is the case, please install it.
