A memorial of North Central Angus, the Airlie Monument lies high on Tulloch Hill(387m / 1269 feet) between the ends of Glen Prosen and Glen Clova, 5 miles (8 km) north of Kirriemuir. The monument was built in 1901 in honour of David Ogilvy, the 9th Earl of Airlie (1856 - 1900) who was killed in South Africa at the Battle of Diamond Hill during the Boer War. It is based on a tower from the Earl's home, Airlie Castle. Balmashanner Hill War Memorial, located to the southof Forfar, is similar.
