Filling in Listings Entry Form

4. Filling in the Listings Entry Form

It is important that you complete each section as this will allow you to get the most from the Angus Listings and ensure your Listings are visible to angusahead.com visitors. There are several sections in each Listings entry form and these are explained below.

  • Your Listings Details
  • Categorise Your Listing: Channel, Topics & Location
  • Categorise Your Listing: Sub-Category
  • Descriptions
  • Facilities & Additional Information

Your Listings Details

This section asks you to provide address and contact details for your Listing and a web link to allow site visitors to click-through to your own website.

The contact details for this section may not be the same as those you submitted in the Registration form.  For instance your organisation may have a business or administrative office, but you may have several customer facilities. Whereas you would supply your business or administrative contact details in the registration form, in this section you would supply the details for the facility or event which is the subject of the Listing.

Categorise Your Listing: Channel, Topics & Location

Visitors to angusahead.com can browse and search the site by selecting a channel, topics of interest or a location.  In addition site visitors can register for my angusahead and personalise their home page by selecting a channel, topic or location.

If a your Listing is not categorised by channel, topics or location then it will not be included in search results, topic or location pages or pulled from the database at random to be included on personalised home pages.

We do ask however that you only select the channels, location or topics that are relevant to your Listing, as irrelevant listings are inconvenient for site visitors and will have a negative effect on your Listing.  Below is a quick guide to categorising your Listing.

  • Channels – you can select either or all of Visit Angus, Business Angus or Live Angus as relevant to your Listing.
    • Visit Angus should be selected for Listings relevant for tourism or leisure.
    • Business Angus should be selected for Listings which are primarily Business-to-Business.
    • Live Angus should be selected for Listings relevant for Angus residents and communities.
  • Topics – you can select several topics or none at all if none are relevant. You can mix between Visit, Business or Live topics and these don’t have to correspond to the channels you have chosen
  • Location – Only one location should be selected although for relevant Listings “the Glens” can be selected as a second category. All Listings have by default an “Angus” location.

Categorise Your Listing: Sub-Category

You must choose a sub-category for your Listing. You can choose several sub-categories by holding the Control key on your keyboard at the same time as clicking the sub-category with your mouse.

If none of the sub-categories appear relevant to your Listing simply select the “Other…” sub-category which appears in every sub-category list.

Descriptions

The descriptions section of the Listings entry form allows you to add:

  • Keywords to describe your Listing – this will help to make your page more visible to external search engines
  • A short description – this is the summary description which is rendered on search results
  • A long description- this is a free text section which can be up to 500 words, although we recommend that you aim for about 250 words.  The long description is the body of the actual Listings page.  It can be used for any information you like, but can be particularly useful to add information that you have not had the opportunity to detail elsewhere. For instance for restaurants this could be a sample menu, or for hotels the number of bedrooms or en-suite rooms.

Facilities & Additional Information

This section gathers additional information about the Listing such as prices, facilities and accessibility information, and for events, dates and times.

Both the Businesses and Organisations and Initiatives and Associations categories do not have this section.  The section is relevant for events, attractions, accommodation and entertainment venues. The fields in this section will vary dependent on the category of Listing and most are checkboxes which can be completed quickly.
